Welcome
to Evangel's Women's Ministry page. Please take a minute to read this
scripture from Proverbs 31:10-31. The women of Evangel are characterized
as the woman of Proverbs 31.
Wisdom
for Living
Proverbs 31 talks about a
woman who is a worthy wife. Her worth is proclaimed by her children
who "arise up, and call her blessed"(9vs28). Her husband thinks
she is the best: "many daughters have done virtuously, but thou
excellest them all"(vs29. This woman's life demonstrates her worthy
character to her children, her spouse and her community. She is industrious,
kind, thrifty, giving and always uses her God-given resources wisely.
She has strength and dignity; she mentors her children and provides
them with a stable enviroment. As a positive force in her community,
she simulates the economy(vv. 16-18), provides for the needy(v.20) and
teaches wisdom(v.26).
An old saying in the African-American community states;
"if you make one step, God will make two." Motivated by her
reverential awe and respect for the Lord(v.30), the woman of proverbs
31 takes many steps to serve others. Because of her faithfulness, her
deeds are multiplied until her value is "far above rubies"(v.10)
What help for the woman of Proverbs 31 also held for
our ancestors. Surely it will hold for us too. The simple faith we inherited
from our ancestors taught us to be responsible and give something back
to the community. It taught us that a life offered in service to others
will be cherished and remembered.
The moderm gospel song sums up well the message of Proverbs
31: "may the work i've done speak for me."
Prayer:
"Gracious God, anchor my soul in honest faithfulness to spouse,
family members and community, and the proper use of my talents and resources.
Amen"
